Thor, God of Thunder

Son of Odin & First Prince of Asgard

I am Thor Odinson, Prince of Asgard and wielder of Mjölnir. Should you wish any harm upon the Earth and its inhabitants, you must attempt to get through me, first. I swear upon the throne I will one day inherit that mankind will be under my protection for as long as I live.

Greetings, Midgardian! My name is Thor, of Asgard; and you are?

hewhowillbeking:

The Jötunn prince avoided Thor’s piercing gaze once more, unable to hold it in its aching sincerity. All he ever wanted was to be seen as an equal, as worthy of praise; at the beginning, all he had ever done had been driven by an intense longing for appreciation, for acknowledgement by those he held in his highest esteem. But the nefarious discovery of his true origins had finally opened his vermillion eyes to the painful truth: that no matter how hard he strived for excellence he could never be seen to have reached the stars, for no creature could be further from them than a filthy Frost Giant - a repulsive monster.

It mattered not whether Thor spoke sweet words of acceptance and love to him; yes, they reached out to a latent side of him, one that still desperately craved for his brother’s approval and affections. For in the raging maelstrom that ever stormed the Jötunn’s aching chest in the presence of his brother, love was the most tortuously and painfully complex sentiment of them all, and it never, ever left. And yes, Thor was sincere, of that there was no doubt, and everything about him - from his gruff voice to his beloved features made Loki’s frost-encased heart quiver like a newborn bird.

But Thor was also the only one to hold that belief in the whole wide universe.

There was nothing left for him. The only thing that had kept him safe within the gleaming halls of Asgard had been the secrecy shrouding his true origins, but now that everyone was aware of his deepest shame, he would never be accepted back as a beloved prince, not after what he’d done and what he represented. Why couldn’t Thor see this? That it was all to no avail? It was almost painful to watch his brother wallow in such a ridiculous delusion. But he needed him to believe it in order to concoct his plan of escape. And he needed to at least look as though he, too, harboured such a hope, as fleeting and far-fetched as it was.

"Look at me, brother," Thor urged softly, grasping Loki’s chin with a large, gentle hand - a hand, they both knew, that was dripping with Jötunn blood - to force the imprisoned prince to face him. “Even if you do not believe my words to be true, find it in yourself to trust me. Everyone makes mistakes; you know very well that I am a fine example of that. But despite this, you are amongst the finest in all the realms connected to Yggdrasil, and none can make me believe so otherwise. When I get you out of this prison, all shall see you how I do.”

And Thor truly believed it. A part of him - the part that forever remained the wary warrior - told him to be more distrustful of Loki, for his brother’s attempts at his life happened on more than one occasion. Loki was an artful tactician and the finest liar in all the lands, and only a fool would ever trust him completely.

It had long been established, however, that Thor was a fool. Despite all that Loki had done, he trusted and loved the Jötunn prince like none other. He could never forget the innocent brother he’d grown up with, nor did he ever want to. Loki’s bright smile, his laughter, his witty jokes, his little tricks - all of it remained with Thor, vivid and graphic in his mind’s eye at all times. He still remembered how genuinely his brother had spoken to him just before his interrupted coronation, and how perfect things had been between them when they were both living in ignorance and thus, bliss. He longed for those days constantly, even though he knew that it would be impossible to get them back again. Too much had happened, and they’d both seen too much.

But, still. If he could get Loki to return home - not only physically, but in his heart, mind, and soul as well… there was little else Thor could ever want.

I am not surprised… But I know you can get him to cooperate…
He’ll see that it does not matter what happened and that you are still there for him, Thor.

It is not that simple. *Frowns.* Loki is the one who has wronged the people of Midgard… your people, but I feel as if I have wronged him as well. And yet, I cannot think of any reason why I ought to apologize to him.

I do not know much about your brother’s and your relationship, Thor…But it seems like you both had a few unsolved problems…Try to find out what it was that made him lose it like that…

There are many reasons, most of which I cannot divulge to you. But… I shall try my best. I give you my word that no threat that befalls Earth will ever again have its origins in Asgard.

Are you faring well?

Of course, thank you! And you, too?

I am… improving. My brother refuses to cooperate, still.

“No, you make yourself into a monster. Your true heritage matters little, for you are still my brother, and in my eyes, you are still a prince of Asgard. And yet, because you so foolishly believe yourself to be a fiend, you act as such, and forget all that we have been through!” And Thor was hurt by that. He was hurt by the fact that Loki seemed to easily forget and discard the memories of when they were young, and used to play and laugh and fight and dream together.

“You believe the Allfather to be cruel and malicious, but that is not so. He is just, but he is not cruel. You will receive whatever punishment you deserve, but once you learn your lesson and pay for your crimes, we can work on fixing all the damage done again.”

He is not just to me!” Loki responded, voice almost cracking with the emotion behind it, “Toward you, his punishments were just. No matter what I did however, it seemed the Frost Giant needed to be taught a lesson more harshly.” Some of his memories were obscured, or seemed hard to remember…Loki had no idea what the cause of it was, not for certain anyway.

“Let me stay here. Let me be punished, here. I would take whatever punishments these humans deal out, and sooner or later one of them will be effective, I am sure. I care not how long it takes…If they see fit to imprison me, so be it, if they can manage it…But I will not return to Asgard for the Allfather to punish me as he has in the past,” Just the most subtle hint of a plea stained the dark haired man’s voice. He was truly desperate not to be subjected to Odin’s justice.

No,” Thor said with a resounding finality to his tone. “What punishment has the Allfather incurred upon you that you did not deserve? He did not punish you at all yet, for all your crimes! You have always feared pain, brother, I know; but do not let your cowardice get in the way of earning your forgiveness! Come with me now while there still remains a chance. Come home.”
